More Than This – Patrick Ness

morethanthis93f50-five-stars– Loved it!

Wow! I can’t even……… just wow! I’ve finished my first Patrick Ness book and I can definitely say that it won’t be my last! More Than This was a page-turner from start to finish and it kept me in suspense the whole time. The dialogue throughout was enthralling and I was nearly annoyed with myself that I just couldn’t work out where the story was going (I’m usually one of those nuisances that can work out “whodunit” in the first few chapters so this was very refreshing!)

From the very first page, I was trying to work out how Patrick Ness was going to write a book that had a boy die in the first few hundred words of the story. I mean death is supposed to be the end, right? Not the beginning……..Well to find out how he managed to do this and do it so well, you’ll have to read the book.

I don’t want to go into too much detail because there are twists and turns that really need to take you by surprise but I will say that I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. The author has come up with a completely fresh concept which blew me away.  I’ve read numerous books before that I felt were much of a muchness when it came to the idea of a dystopian society whereas, with this book, it really made me think, “What if this was true? What if this is happening right now and my whole life is a lie?”

In summing up, I would give this a huge 5/5 and would recommend it to all.  It will be put back on my shelves for now but will definitely be taken out for re-reads, time and time again, I imagine………..

(from the back cover)

A boy drowns, desperate and alone in his final moments. He dies.

Then he wakes, naked and bruised and thirsty, but alive.

How can this be? And what is this strange deserted place?

As he struggles to understand what is happening, the boy dares to hope. Might this not be the end? Might there be more to this life, or perhaps this afterlife?”
